Dr. Tasleem Arif, a dermatologist from Soura, Srinagar, has been honored by Stanford University as one of the top two percent of scientists worldwide. This marks the second consecutive year he has achieved this recognition, covering the years 2024 and 2025.
Dr. Arif completed his MD in Dermatology at Government Medical College Srinagar and obtained his MBBS from the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS). He expressed pride in this achievement, not just for himself but as a representative of his field and his Union Territory. “I am not glad because I made it, but because I represented my fraternity and my Union Territory,” he stated.
With more than 155 research publications and multiple book chapters, Dr. Arif is acclaimed for his groundbreaking studies on scleroderma, an autoimmune disorder characterized by the hardening of skin and internal organs. His notable research paper titled “Esophageal involvement in systemic sclerosis and morphea” was reviewed by The New England Journal of Medicine in its NEJM Journal Watch, a rare accolade in the medical research community.
Additionally, Dr. Arif has developed the “Tasleem”s Water Jet Sign,” a diagnostic marker named in his honor, along with innovative techniques for treating vitiligo and advancements in cosmetic dermatology. In 2023, he was awarded the prestigious Imrich Sarkany Non-European Memorial Scholarship from the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology.
