The membership of the Junts party has decisively voted in favor of terminating its coalition agreement with the PSOE, as confirmed in a recent vote held on October 30. The decision, which reflects the sentiments of many within the party, was solidified with 86% of participants supporting the resolution to sever ties with the socialists.
In a statement released following the voting event, Junts officials noted that participation in the vote reached 66.29%. The question posed to members was, “Do you agree with the national leadership”s proposal to end the coalition agreement with the PSOE due to their repeated failures to meet their commitments?”
This vote mirrors the previous voting process that had allowed the PSOE to govern in 2023. The decision to break off relations was finalized by the party leadership on October 27, and the results of the consultation showed a clear majority: 86.98% voted “yes,” while 10.22% opposed the motion, and 2.80% abstained.
Eduard Pujol, a prominent figure within Junts, criticized Pedro Sánchez, accusing him of behaving “like a Houdini or a classic trickster” over the past two years. Pujol suggested that Sánchez opened the door to manipulative state tactics, referring to a situation akin to the “lawfare” that Catalonia experienced.
This decisive vote marks a significant shift in the political landscape for Junts and its relationship with the PSOE, indicating a clear stance on the dissatisfaction with the current coalition”s effectiveness.
