Sam Altman, the founder and CEO of OpenAI, has publicly expressed his frustration after waiting more than seven years for a Tesla vehicle he ordered. On Friday, he announced his decision to request a refund for the electric car, for which he paid a reservation fee of $45,000.
In a post on the social media platform X, Altman shared three screenshots that outlined his interactions with Tesla. The first screenshot confirmed his vehicle reservation, while the second depicted his request for cancellation and a refund. However, the third screenshot indicated that his email requesting the refund was not delivered, showing an “address not found” error message.
Alongside the screenshots, Altman quipped, “A tale in three acts.” He later remarked, “I really was excited for the car! And I understand delays. But 7.5 years has felt like a long time to wait.”
His post garnered significant attention, quickly going viral and receiving thousands of reactions and comments. Among the responses was a lighthearted jab from his brother, Jack Altman, who shared a photo of Sam with a quote that humorously downplayed the significance of the reservation fee. Jack commented, “You can”t be worrying about 50k like this.” Sam responded with humor, saying, “little brother energy is the WORST.”
As of now, Tesla has not responded to Altman”s public inquiry. The company has recently begun deliveries of the standard Model Y in India, with plans to start delivering the Long Range variant soon. New Model Y owners in India are also set to receive a complimentary Wall Connector for convenient home charging.
