Swinburne University of Technology has recently concluded its 2025 Venture Cup, a prestigious pitch competition that highlights innovative ideas and entrepreneurial spirit. This event is the university”s longest-running and most anticipated competition, showcasing the talents of emerging startups.
The top prize was awarded to Zero Tech for their AI-powered video storytelling platform, AutoAE. This platform is designed to revolutionize video storytelling and is currently trusted by over 250,000 creators across more than 80 countries. The runner-up was Encevia Systems, founded by alumni Matthew Evans and Ashley Trethowan. They presented an AI-driven member support tool tailored for organizations, particularly focusing on the airline industry.
The People”s Choice Award went to AeroSync, a startup co-founded by Swinburne students Zachary Schade and Nicholas Dobie. AeroSync”s innovative approach involves modular, AI-driven multi-drone systems capable of autonomously cleaning building facades and other infrastructures.
This year”s competition marked the culmination of the Swinburne Innovation Studio”s Elevate Program, which provides startups with a comprehensive 12-week journey of personalized coaching, masterclasses, and mentoring. During this program, six standout startups were selected to refine their business models and present their ideas to a panel of experts for a chance to win cash prizes for venture funding.
Audrey Jean-Baptiste, Head of Commercial Programs and Operations, emphasized the program”s focus on empowering teams to strengthen their business models and gain traction. “The Elevate program focuses on strengthening each team”s business model, building real traction, and developing the conviction to double down and take their venture to the next level,” she stated. “This final pitch night celebrated six ambitious founding teams who embody that drive to innovate and create positive change.”
Hanna Zhu, co-founder of Zero Tech, expressed her excitement about winning the competition, saying, “Winning the Venture Cup through Swinburne”s Elevate Program has been an incredible milestone for Zero Tech. The mentorship, structure, and community support truly sharpened our vision and execution.”
The Swinburne Innovation Studio continues to play a vital role in nurturing entrepreneurship, connecting students, staff, researchers, alumni, and industry partners. With flagship programs like the Initiate Program, Luminate Program, and Elevate Program, the studio aims to foster high-potential ventures addressing real-world challenges.
In 2026, the Innovation Studio plans to build on its success by expanding support for founders through additional programs, resources, and investment opportunities, all aimed at helping innovative ideas flourish.
