Antonio Banderas Criticizes Spanish Political Class on Antena 3

Antonio Banderas recently shared his thoughts on the state of Spanish politics during an appearance on the program “Espejo Público,” which is aired on Antena 3 and hosted by Susanna Griso. The acclaimed actor did not hold back, stating, “It embarrasses me” to observe the current political landscape.

Banderas went on to discuss the declining intellectual caliber of political leaders, saying, “On an intellectual level, they have decreased.” He contrasted this with past political figures, noting that there was a time when leaders exhibited stronger personalities and were better educated.

During the interview, Banderas highlighted the relevance of peace and love in society, referencing a theatrical production he starred in during the 1970s on Broadway, which is based on the Gospel of Matthew. He emphasized that themes of peace, forgiveness, and humility are still pertinent today, especially in the context of global conflicts occurring in places like Israel, Nigeria, Yemen, and Ukraine.

Moreover, he expressed his dismay at witnessing political debates that resemble a “playground where children throw dishes at each other.” This analogy pointed to what he perceives as childish behavior among politicians, rather than a serious discourse on beliefs and ideologies. Banderas lamented the apparent loss of gravitas and decorum in political discussions today.
