Perplexity AI, led by CEO Aravind Srinivas, is set to introduce a new feature that allows users to track the stock holdings of Indian politicians. This functionality, expected to launch in the upcoming weeks, aims to enhance financial transparency in India.
Currently, Perplexity Finance enables users to monitor the trading activities and investments of American politicians. Srinivas confirmed the forthcoming feature for India through a post on X, responding to a user”s inquiry regarding how to track the investments of Indian politicians. He remarked, “Holdings of Indian politicians coming in a few weeks.”
The existing platform provides two methods for users to examine the stock holdings and trading behaviors of U.S. politicians. The first method involves an in-company search where users can select a publicly listed company and review its shareholders, including politicians, institutional lenders, and company insiders. For instance, users interested in Amazon Inc can navigate to the company page, access the “Holders” section, and filter the results to view politicians holding shares.
The second method allows users to search directly for a specific politician, enabling them to view that individual”s trading activities across various companies in chronological order.
Srinivas”s announcement regarding the Indian market signifies a potential shift toward greater accountability in the financial dealings of politicians in the world”s largest democracy. Many users expressed enthusiasm for this feature, with comments such as “Excited to see real financial disclosures soon” and “Please make it fast!” indicating a strong demand for transparency.
However, some skepticism remains among netizens regarding the effectiveness of this system in India. Concerns have been raised about the common practice among Indian politicians of holding assets under relatives” or anonymous names, which could complicate the transparency initiative. Others voiced worries that a transparent financial disclosure system could lead to challenges for Perplexity AI in the Indian market.
Although a specific timeline for the launch has not been provided, Srinivas assured users that the feature would be available soon, potentially before the end of the year.
