India Research Tour 2025 Promotes Open Science in Kolkata Institutions

The India Research Tour 2025, one of the most ambitious outreach initiatives by Springer Nature in partnership with the Ministry of Education, has made its way to Kolkata. This tour aims to engage with faculty, researchers, and students from four esteemed institutions: the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta, Jadavpur University, Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) Kolkata, and Adamas University.

Spanning 29 institutions across 15 cities and 7 states, the tour will take place from October 6 to November 13. Its primary focus is to advance open access and open science, enhance research integrity, promote e-book adoption, assist in recruiting editorial board members, and encourage diversity and inclusion within the research community.

Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, Minister of State for the Ministry of Education, emphasized the significance of the initiative, stating, “The India Research Tour embodies the spirit of innovation and growth and aligns with the country”s priorities of advancing research and discovery. The One Nation One Subscription (ONOS) and the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) represent a historic leap for education and will catalyze research through various government and partner initiatives. Our endeavor is to make research inclusive and globally inspiring. As a nation, we have the capacity and capability to achieve much more, and I encourage researchers to pursue their work with passion and determination.”

Professor Dhananjay Singh, Secretary of the Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICSSR), remarked, “The India Research Tour reflects the Government of India”s commitment to strengthening the national research and innovation ecosystem through collaboration, capacity building, and equitable access to knowledge. As a key partner, ICSSR recognizes the importance of advancing open access, promoting research integrity, and fostering interdisciplinary engagement across institutions. Initiatives like this align with our policy objective to create a more inclusive and globally connected research environment, empowering scholars to contribute to India”s social, economic, and developmental priorities.”

During the event, Venkatesh Sarvasiddhi, Managing Director of Springer Nature India, noted, “Kolkata”s institutions have been at the forefront of India”s intellectual and scientific journey. Engaging with researchers here reinforces the spirit of collaboration, integrity, and inclusivity that drives the India Research Tour.”

The India Research Tour 2025 commenced on October 6 in New Delhi at the ICSSR and has already visited institutions in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand before arriving in Kolkata.
