The Canarian Foundation for Scientific and Technological Park of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (FCPCT-ULPGC) has established itself as a vital link between academic research and the business sector. This initiative ensures that scientific findings from ULPGC laboratories are transformed into practical innovations. In the 2024-2025 period, a total of 193 collaboration agreements were formalized, generating an economic volume that exceeds six million euros across various research, development, and innovation projects.
The FCPCT-ULPGC plays a crucial role through its Knowledge Transfer Office (OTC), providing essential support and guidance for the establishment and growth of businesses. The office also enhances connections among innovation system stakeholders to foster collaboration agreements and synergies. Noteworthy programs include INNOVAMOS, which focuses on facilitating knowledge transfer and establishing stable relationships between the university and enterprises; SYNERGIA, which promotes open innovation projects and strengthens alliances between ULPGC and the productive sector; and Red CIDE, an initiative by the Canarian Government”s Department of Universities, Science, Innovation, and Culture. This program, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund, offers free consultancy in R&D and support for business project funding.
Currently, the OTC collaborates with 117 research groups at ULPGC, many of which are integrated into 11 research institutes. Its technology catalog features 51 proposals in areas such as health, engineering, energy, information and communication technologies, and the environment. This catalog serves as a vital tool for identifying collaboration opportunities between researchers and businesses. In addition, the office manages around 70 open collaboration searches, aiding in the identification of the best scientific profiles for specific business needs.
A key innovation in this process is OTI, the new artificial intelligence agent at ULPGC, which enhances knowledge transfer and connects university innovations with societal needs. With its advanced processing and learning capabilities, OTI identifies matches and collaboration opportunities that may be overlooked in conventional analyses, thereby accelerating the connection between research and market applications.
Furthermore, FCPCT-ULPGC oversees the Scientific Services Office, which provides 12 specialized services and access to about 500 high-tech equipment pieces. This setup allows many businesses to conduct tests, trials, or developments without the need for significant infrastructure investment. Through this extensive network of services and programs, FCPCT-ULPGC reaffirms its role as a strategic player in driving innovation in the Canary Islands, ensuring that the scientific knowledge generated at ULPGC reaches the marketplace and contributes to enhancing the competitiveness and development of the business environment in the archipelago.
