A 25-year-old tusker tragically lost its life after being struck by a train in Odisha. The incident took place around 11:50 PM on November 1, 2025, as the Shalimaar-Baripada Express traversed the Jugal railway station.
According to forest officials, the accident occurred at the Agria level crossings within the Betnoti forest range. A herd of elephants had been moving through this area, having come from the nearby Simlipal National Park.
Gobind Chandra Nayak, the Baripada Divisional Forest Officer, arrived at the scene on November 2, 2025, to oversee the situation. He confirmed that the elephant”s body has been sent for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. An investigation is currently underway to gather further details about the incident.
As of now, railway officials have not released any statements regarding the accident. Local residents have reported that the elephant was unable to escape the tracks due to the level crossing gate being closed at the time, which prevented its safe passage.
