Amazon Plans to Cut 14,000 Jobs to Streamline Operations

Amazon has announced plans to eliminate 14,000 jobs as part of a strategy to streamline its operations and reduce bureaucracy. This decision, confirmed by CEO Andy Jassy, aims to create a more sustainable future for the company.

According to Jassy, the restructuring is designed to enable Amazon to invest more effectively in opportunities that align with current and future consumer needs. Beth Galetti, Senior Vice President of People and Technology, stated that the company intends to eliminate layers within the organization to enhance efficiency.

This decision could potentially impact a total of 30,000 employees, representing about 5% of the company”s office workforce. The restructuring reflects a broader trend within Amazon as it looks to integrate more artificial intelligence tools into its operations, which may lead to further job reductions.

Details from Reuters indicate that certain divisions will be prioritized for these layoffs, although specifics on which teams will be affected have not been disclosed. Management has reportedly provided guidelines for communicating the layoffs to employees.

This upcoming round of layoffs follows a previous restructuring that occurred in 2022, which affected 27,000 workers. If current estimates hold, the impending cuts would surpass that number, highlighting a significant shift within Amazon as it adapts to changing market conditions.
