AEMET Predicts Warmer Than Normal Winter for Spain

The Agencia Estatal de Meteorología (AEMET) has released its forecast for the winter months from November to January, indicating that temperatures are expected to be warmer than usual. This prediction follows an October characterized by several storms and significant rainfall across various regions of Spain.

According to early projections shared by AEMET on its X profile, there is only a 10-20% likelihood that the upcoming months will be colder than average. The agency notes that there is no clear trend regarding precipitation across most of Spain, with only slight indications of increased rainfall in certain areas, particularly in the peninsula and the Balearic Islands.

In terms of rainfall, AEMET”s accompanying map suggests that the Mediterranean coast, including the Balearic Islands, will experience the most significant temperature increases. This region also has a roughly 50% chance of seeing above-average rainfall. Meanwhile, much of the peninsula shows a uniform probability of about 33% for various weather outcomes.

The implications of these forecasts could affect agricultural planning and water resource management in the region, as stakeholders prepare for a potentially warmer winter.
