The Ministry of Science and Technology has officially appointed Dr. Raheel Qamar as the new Rector of COMSATS University, a prominent institution in Pakistan dedicated to science and technology. This decision follows presidential approval and marks the beginning of Dr. Qamar”s five-year term leading the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS).
Dr. Qamar is not unfamiliar with this position; he previously held the role of Acting Rector at COMSATS University from 2017 to 2020. During his earlier tenure, he was noted for his contributions to enhancing academic and research programs within the university.
A distinguished academic, Dr. Qamar received the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, a prestigious honor awarded by former President General Pervez Musharraf in 2007. He has also represented Pakistan on the global stage, serving as the head of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), which is affiliated with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
His extensive background in education and commitment to scientific advancement positions him well to lead COMSATS University into its next chapter, as it continues to contribute to research and development in the region.
