Telangana Aims for Rs 1 Lakh Crore Investment in Life Sciences by 2030

The state of Telangana has set an ambitious goal to attract investments totaling Rs 1 lakh crore in the Life Sciences sector by the year 2030. This initiative is expected to create employment opportunities for five lakh individuals, as outlined by the Minister for IT and Industries, D Sridhar Babu.

During his keynote address at the AusBiotech International Conference 2025 in Melbourne, which was co-hosted by AusBiotech and the Government of Victoria, the minister highlighted the state government”s comprehensive strategy, dubbed “Roadmap 2030.” This plan aims to establish Telangana as a global hub for Life Sciences.

Sridhar Babu emphasized that the state is in the process of developing a Comprehensive Life Sciences Policy designed to foster innovation, enhance infrastructure, and forge international partnerships. He noted that Telangana has consistently outperformed national averages in terms of economic growth.

Despite being the 11th largest state by area and 12th by population, Telangana contributes over five percent to India”s GDP. For the fiscal year 2024-25, the state”s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) growth rate is projected at 8.2 percent, which surpasses the national average of 7.6 percent.

According to a report from global consultancy firm CBRE, Hyderabad has been recognized in the Global Life Sciences Atlas 2025, ranking alongside prominent global Life Sciences clusters such as Boston, San Francisco, Cambridge, Beijing, and Tokyo. Notably, Hyderabad is the sole Indian city included in this prestigious list.

The demand for Life Sciences office space in Hyderabad has surged, with leasing expanding from 0.6 million square feet in 2022 to 2.4 million square feet in 2024, signaling robust growth in the sector and bolstering investor confidence.

The minister stated, “Telangana is investing significantly in developing a “ready-to-deploy bio-digital workforce” to address the requirements of emerging technologies in biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and healthcare.”

Furthermore, the establishment of both the Life Sciences University and the Young India Skills University reflects the Telangana Government”s commitment to nurturing next-generation talent in advanced scientific and technological fields.

In addition, the state is collaborating with the World Economic Forum“s Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, along with other international organizations, to ensure that skill development and innovation ecosystems align with the evolving demands of the Bio-Digital era.
