The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has officially partnered with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar to enhance collaborative research and development efforts. This agreement was formalized on October 17 at the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) of ISRO, with an official announcement made on the following Friday.
The primary focus of this partnership is to investigate and monitor physical and biogeochemical processes in the ocean, as well as changes along the shoreline in the western region of the Bay of Bengal. According to the official release, the initial phase will target the mapping and analysis of nearshore dynamics, stretching from the Sundarbans delta to northern Andhra Pradesh. There is also potential for future expansion to include other coastal areas of India.
This collaboration reflects a significant step towards leveraging academic research capabilities alongside governmental space technology for the benefit of understanding and managing coastal ecosystems and oceanic processes.
