Punjab Schools Adjust Timings for Winter Session Opening at 8:45 AM

The School Education Department of Punjab has announced a change in school operating hours for the winter season. Starting soon, public schools across the province will open at 8:45 AM and dismiss at 1:30 PM. An official notification detailing these changes is expected to be released on Monday, October 27, 2025.

This decision follows a previous notification issued by the District Education Authority (DEA) Lahore on September 1, 2025, which established a different schedule. Under that arrangement, schools were set to operate from 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM on regular days, with Friday classes concluding at 12:00 PM. The DEA had also outlined timings for a second shift, starting at 2:00 PM and ending at 5:30 PM, with Friday sessions beginning at 2:30 PM.

In light of recent weather events, the Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) previously directed that schools severely impacted by floods should remain closed. All outsourced institutions were instructed to ensure that students do not sit on the floor and to move classes to safer nearby locations if their school buildings were deemed unsafe. PEF officials have pledged full support to the district administration in setting up relief camps for students and communities affected by the floods. Furthermore, they emphasized that school licensees would be held accountable for protecting any valuable items stored in these relief facilities.

This adjustment in school hours reflects ongoing efforts to enhance student safety and well-being during the challenging winter season.
