The Lahore Science Mela (LSM) 2025 wrapped up successfully, drawing significant attention and participation. Dr. Rashid Mahmood, the spokesperson for the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), emphasized the need to replicate such successful science festivals in other prominent cities, including the capital, Islamabad.
Dr. Mahmood noted the impressive turnout of families and individuals at the event, stating, “To maintain the spirit of curiosity among the youth, we should initiate such interactive and educational science festivals throughout Pakistan.” He added that these events are crucial for sparking interest in scientific research and satisfying the inquisitive nature of young minds.
Over the course of the two-day event, the PAEC showcased its contributions to various sectors, including mineral exploration, energy production, agricultural advancements, and health. Highlights from the PAEC”s pavilion included radiopharmaceutical kits used in cancer diagnosis, developed by the Pakistan Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology (PINSTECH), a model of a nuclear power plant, domestically produced vaccines, and other agricultural and mineral products.
Students were particularly thrilled to engage with the champions of the International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO) 2025, who were trained by the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS), a leading engineering institution under the PAEC.
For many years, the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission has actively participated in the Lahore Science Mela, consistently taking a leading role in the initiative organized by the Khwarizmi Science Society (KSS). This year”s event took place at the Crescent Model Higher Secondary School in Lahore, attracting over 100,000 attendees.
The Mela featured various attractions particularly appealing to the youth, including a wide array of science and technology exhibits, a planetarium, interactive demonstrations, thrilling indoor games, and informative talks in auditoriums.
