The President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, has appealed to Carles Puigdemont to exercise common sense in light of the upcoming meeting of Junts. This meeting is set for October 27 and will focus on evaluating the party”s relationship with the current government, following recent claims of “unfulfilled promises.”
Recently, the Catalan independence party suggested that it may consider a motion of censure against the government, a move that could pressure Prime Minister Sánchez by potentially removing his coalition support. In an interview with La 2 Cat, Illa specifically referenced the approval of the amnesty law as a critical issue. He noted that he has not engaged in discussions with Puigdemont or the party”s Secretary General, Jordi Turull, who recently emphasized the need for the government to substantiate its commitments with concrete actions.
Illa expressed, “I have tried to ensure that the majority supporting Sánchez”s investiture functions effectively.” He also directed comments toward Alberto Núñez Feijóo and Podemos, criticizing their efforts to undermine the agreement at every step. Additionally, Illa clarified that neither the PSOE nor the PSC supports the idea of a referendum. The political landscape remains tense as all eyes turn to the decision that Junts will make in Perpignan on Monday, regarding its future with the government. Illa even accused the President of being more concerned with the time change than the situation in Catalonia.
