Workshop Enhances AI Research Skills for Medical Students in Visakhapatnam

In a notable advancement towards the integration of advanced technology in biomedical education, a comprehensive workshop titled “Empowering Postgraduates with Smart Research Skills” took place on October 27. This event was specifically aimed at postgraduate medical students and was held at the campus in Visakhapatnam.

The workshop sought to provide attendees with essential knowledge and hands-on experience to effectively utilize Artificial Intelligence (AI) in various facets of biomedical research. Participants learned how AI can facilitate and improve numerous stages of research, including the initial study conceptualization, literature reviews, and the application of ethical practices in academic work.

Organized by GITAM Deemed University, the event featured a series of enlightening sessions led by experts in the field. Dr. Raveendran, a prominent medical researcher, presented an engaging discussion on the role of AI in the design and drafting of research protocols. His insights highlighted how AI tools can significantly accelerate the research process.

Furthermore, Dr. Harsimrat Singh Waraich demonstrated AI-based methodologies for effective data synthesis and the generation of evidence-based insights, focusing on smart literature reviews. The workshop concluded with a compelling address from GIMSR Pro Vice-Chancellor Gitanjali Batmanabane, who emphasized the importance of maintaining a balance between automation and crucial human competencies. She pointed out that critical thinking and ethical judgment remain invaluable in an age dominated by AI.

The dean of the medical college, S.P. Rao, remarked on the institution”s commitment to shaping future biomedical researchers who are well-prepared to tackle the challenges presented by a rapidly evolving scientific landscape.

One of the standout features of the workshop was a practical training session on “MyCalPharm,” an innovative AI-powered research support platform. Participants had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with digital tools designed to enhance research efficiency, accuracy, and data management in the medical domain.
