Meta has unveiled a new feature that integrates artificial intelligence (AI) into the Instagram stories section, a popular format on the platform. This addition, detailed on the company”s official blog, aims to enhance users” editing capabilities for their images and videos before sharing them.
The tool, named Restyle, allows users to make adjustments and modify their posted photos using a text-based instruction, known as a prompt. Among its various functionalities, the tool can remove unwanted elements, reconstruct backgrounds, add decorative objects, and alter the overall visual aesthetics of photographs.
To utilize Meta AI for editing photos, users start by selecting the “+” icon on their profile, choosing an image from their gallery, and then tapping the style editing icon located at the top of the screen. From this menu, users can enter a prompt describing their desired modification, such as “remove background” or “add balloons,” or they can opt for one of the predefined effects available. Once the system generates the new version of the image, users need to confirm the edit by selecting “Done” before sharing it in their stories.
The process for editing videos is quite similar. Users choose a clip from their gallery, access the style editing icon, and select a predefined effect. In this manner, Meta AI automatically generates a modified version of the video, ready for sharing in the stories section.
Additionally, Meta has included the “Add Yours” sticker functionality, which encourages other Instagram users to engage in a specific trend or create their own versions of content inspired by the original story.
Recent updates to Instagram also include the ability to publish ultra-wide reels (5120×1080 pixels), providing a panoramic and cinematic effect for video sharing. Unlike conventional formats, this new reel style truncates parts of the image at the top and bottom, emphasizing the lateral elements for a better visual experience.
In August, Instagram began implementing new features aimed at strengthening connections among users, including a Repost button for sharing with friends and followers, the Instagram Map for location sharing, and a Friends tab in Reels designed to showcase videos liked by friends. The Reels Repost feature allows users to repost content from others directly onto their feed, previously achievable only through external applications or screenshots, thus enhancing original content dissemination.
The Instagram Map feature, integrated within direct messages, allows users to share their location with friends without constant tracking, as it updates the location only when the application is opened. The Friends tab within Reels displays content created, liked, or shared by friends, fostering a more interactive experience.
