ABB Laboratory at VILNIUS TECH Enhances Practical Skills for Future Engineers

The ABB laboratory at VILNIUS TECH exemplifies the effective collaboration between industry and academia, significantly enhancing the education of aspiring engineers. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Artūras Medeišis, the Dean of the Faculty of Electronics, states, “This is currently the best-equipped laboratory in the Baltic region, offering a full range of devices – from basic electric drives and motors to various types of industrial electronics.”

Each semester, the laboratory accommodates approximately one hundred students from Lithuania and other countries, providing them with essential practical training. “This partnership with ABB allows students to engage with world-class equipment and immerse themselves in industrial work culture, which is crucial for understanding job market expectations,” emphasizes the Dean.

Justinas Pesliakas, who leads ABB”s Drives and Motors Business in Lithuania, explains that the inception of the laboratory stemmed from the necessity to bolster students” hands-on skills. “We recognized that students would greatly benefit from increased practical experiences, which is why this lab serves as an invaluable addition to their studies,” he elaborates.

Pesliakas further notes, “Our focus extends beyond the equipment; it encompasses knowledge sharing. This is why ABB specialists frequently visit the university to deliver lectures and collaborate with faculty to address current and future needs of students.” He also highlights ABB”s mission to “help use resources sustainably and efficiently, emphasizing that the most eco-friendly energy is the energy that is not consumed.”
