Nikon Z f Firmware Update Introduces Film Grain and Manual Focus Enhancements

Nikon has announced the release of firmware version 3.00 for its full-frame mirrorless Z f camera, incorporating a range of creative and functional enhancements aimed at photographers and videographers.

This latest update introduces a new Film Grain feature, which allows users to add a natural, grainy texture to their images and videos through advanced image processing techniques. Users can customize the grain size with three different options and adjust the intensity across six levels, effectively mimicking the aesthetics of traditional film photography. The randomised grain pattern ensures that each frame maintains a unique appearance, enhancing the “film-like” experience.

In addition to the Film Grain feature, the firmware update significantly improves manual focusing capabilities. A new “Only during zoom” option for Focus Peaking enables users to see peaking highlights exclusively when magnifying the image for precise manual focus adjustments. Furthermore, the update introduces a “Maximum aperture Lv” setting, enhancing focus detection capabilities.

Nikon has also expanded grid display options, now offering a 4:3 format for still images and a 9:16 format for videos, both optimized for content creation on social media platforms. Other notable improvements include seamless live streaming via HDMI output, an Automatic Monitor Display Switch to prevent unintended viewfinder activation, and an electronic shutter sound option for high-speed and pixel shift shooting.

Additionally, the new Video Orientation Recording function ensures that portrait videos are aligned correctly during playback and editing. The update simplifies the process of registering Imaging Recipes through the Nikon Imaging Cloud, allowing creators to experiment with downloadable picture control profiles more easily.

With this firmware update, Nikon reaffirms its dedication to providing creators with innovative tools that enhance their imaging capabilities and shooting efficiency. The firmware version 3.00 for the Nikon Z f (available in black and silver) can now be downloaded from Nikon”s official website at www.nikon.co.in.
