A tragic incident has shocked the international community after a father and son lost their lives due to a brutal attack by giant Asian hornets. The event took place on October 15 at Green Jungle Park, located near Luang Prabang, Laos. Both victims, who were visiting the park, received more than 100 stings each.
The deceased, identified as Daniel Owen, the director of the International QSI School in Haiphong, Vietnam, was enjoying a vacation with his son at the time of the attack. Although they arrived conscious at the Phakan Arocavet Clinic without clear signs of anaphylactic shock, they tragically passed away just hours later at the provincial hospital.
A clinic worker reported that despite the immediate medical attention, both individuals succumbed to their injuries. In response to the incident, Green Jungle Park issued a statement expressing condolences and announced a comprehensive review of its safety protocols.
The Entomological Society of America has highlighted the dangers posed by these hornets, known scientifically as Vespa mandarinia, noting that their venom can lead to organ failure and even death without prior allergic reactions. This incident has reignited concerns over the risks associated with these insects in natural environments frequented by tourists.
