A groundbreaking research facility in Inverness focused on animal and human health will open its doors to the public on November 13. The Rural and Veterinary Innovation Centre (RAVIC) at Inverness Campus is hosting an open day where attendees can learn about various veterinary practices.
Scheduled from 10 AM to 3 PM, the event, titled “People, Pets and Pathogens,” offers visitors the chance to explore post-mortem facilities, learn how to perform CPR on dogs, and examine a parasite under a microscope. This initiative aims to engage the community in understanding the challenges facing animal health.
During the open day, individuals will have the opportunity to meet Scotland”s experts in animal disease, who are crucial in assessing global health threats. Veterinary professionals from Scotland”s Rural College (SRUC) will explain their pivotal role in diagnosing and monitoring animal diseases in the post-mortem room.
Aspiring veterinarians and scientists can interact with faculty from SRUC”s School of Veterinary Medicine and Biosciences to discuss course offerings and career paths in the field. Additionally, Scottish Vet Referrals will demonstrate dog CPR techniques and address general pet-related inquiries from attendees.
Visitors can also gain insights into the issue of superbugs and how research on antimicrobial resistance in pets could benefit both human and animal health. Agricultural experts will be present to showcase innovations in the industry, while those interested in aquaculture can learn about gill health and the application of artificial intelligence.
The RAVIC, which was inaugurated at a cost of £12.5 million, was created to foster innovation and job growth in Scotland”s health, agricultural, and aquaculture sectors. Developed by SRUC with support from the European Regional Development Fund and The Scottish Funding Council, the centre was officially opened by Princess Anne in March 2024.
