Inverness Veterinary Centre Opens Doors for Public Engagement on Animal Health

A groundbreaking research facility focused on both animal and human health in Inverness is set to welcome the public next month.

The Rural and Veterinary Innovation Centre (RAVIC), located at Inverness Campus, will host an open day on Thursday, November 13. The event aims to provide insights into various veterinary practices and research activities.

During the open day, titled “People, Pets and Pathogens,” attendees can explore the centre”s post-mortem facilities, learn how to perform CPR on dogs, and examine parasites through a microscope. The event runs from 10 AM to 3 PM.

Visitors will have the opportunity to interact with Scotland”s animal disease specialists, who are at the forefront of assessing global health threats. In the post-mortem room, veterinarians from the Scottish Rural College (SRUC) will explain their essential roles in diagnosing and monitoring animal diseases.

Aspiring veterinarians and scientists can also engage with SRUC staff from the School of Veterinary Medicine and Biosciences to discuss educational pathways and career prospects.

Additionally, Scottish Vet Referrals will showcase dog CPR techniques and address general pet-related inquiries. The event will feature discussions on antimicrobial resistance in pets, shedding light on how this pioneering research could benefit both human and animal health.

Guests can interact with agricultural experts and sample innovations from the industry. Those interested in aquaculture will have the chance to learn about gill health and the application of artificial intelligence in the field.

The RAVIC, built at a cost of £12.5 million, was established to foster innovation and job creation in Scotland”s health, agriculture, and aquaculture sectors. The facility was developed by Scottish Rural College with support from the European Regional Development Fund and the Scottish Funding Council, and it was officially inaugurated by Princess Anne in March 2024.
