The City of San Antonio has inaugurated the Municipal Archives Museum, which presents a comprehensive overview of the city”s governmental history spanning more than three centuries. This new facility is situated within the Municipal Archives & Records Center at 719 South Santa Rosa Avenue.
Visitors can explore a rich collection of preserved city documents, photographs, artifacts, and interactive multimedia displays that trace the development of municipal governance in San Antonio. City Clerk Debbie Racca-Sittre emphasized the museum”s role, stating, “The Municipal Archives Museum is more than a collection of historical records. It is a vibrant space where the community can connect with the legacy of civic service, government transparency, and the growth of our great city.”
Among the notable items featured in the inaugural exhibit are a hand-carved City Seal crafted in 1925 by woodcarver Johannes C. Scholze, minutes from the San Fernando de Béxar City Council dating back to 1818, and a survey map from 1849 depicting Samuel A. Maverick“s land in downtown San Antonio, which includes the historic Alamo.
Additionally, attendees can view the lyrics and album for the city song “San Antonio, Ciudad de Encantos.” Admission to the museum is free; however, visits are available by appointment only during weekdays. Interested guests can request an appointment or find further information on the museum”s official website.
