Arturo O. Valencia Remembered for His Love and Legacy

Arturo O. Valencia, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, father-in-law, and friend, peacefully passed away at his home, surrounded by his family. Born in North Hollywood to Alejandro and Luisa Valencia, Art”s life exemplified hard work, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to family. He was predeceased by his cherished wife, Nellie Valencia, with whom he enjoyed over 73 years of marriage and partnership, raising four children: Mary George, Arturo Valencia, Andy Valencia, and Becky Trillo.

Art”s legacy continues through his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom he held dear. He was also predeceased by his sister, Lola Gonzalez, and brothers, Alex, Raymond, and John. He is survived by his siblings, Tito and Choco.

Beyond his dedication to family and work, Art found joy in various hobbies. Many fond memories were created during family camping trips to Glen Ivy. An enthusiastic bowler, he competed for over four decades, first at the Bowl-O-Drome and later at Gardena Bowl. In the 1960s, he was an active participant in a men”s softball league at Torrance Park. Art was also an accomplished pool player, known for his tournament victories and reputation as one of the best players in Torrance.

In his youth, Art”s family relocated to Torrance, where he grew up in the close-knit community of La Rana. He attended Torrance High School and built a career that showcased his strong work ethic and skills. He dedicated 20 years to Soule” Steel in Carson before transitioning to a role as a Master Mechanic at McDonnell Douglas, where his precision and dedication earned him significant respect and accolades.

Art was a self-made individual who rose from humble beginnings to create a life filled with love, purpose, and accomplishment. He took immense pride in the home he meticulously restored and maintained, with each project reflecting his craftsmanship, dedication, and care. A voracious reader and lifelong subscriber to the Daily Breeze, he cherished the written word, particularly enjoying the fact that his sons once delivered that very newspaper.

Though he is no longer physically present, his spirit lives on in the stories shared, the lessons imparted, and the love he gave so freely. A memorial service will be held at 4 PM on Monday, October 27, 2025, at Bethel Baptist Church of Torrance, located at 1501 W Carson St, Torrance, CA 90501-3934.
