Sharjah Next: New Global Series Focuses on Healthcare Innovation

The Sharjah Next: Healthcare event, which began on October 29, marks the launch of a new global series organized by the Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park (SPARK). This two-day event brings together leading academics, startups, and industry experts to discuss innovations in healthcare.

Key topics at the event include the application of artificial intelligence in medical diagnosis, advancements in precision heart care, the role of genetics in treatment, and the development of digital healthcare solutions. Attendees are encouraged to engage in discussions surrounding these critical areas of medical innovation.

The launch ceremony was attended by Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah, and Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of SPARK”s Board of Directors. Hussain Al Mahmoudi, the CEO of SPARK, emphasized Sharjah”s dedication to health and innovation on a global stage. He noted that SPARK is home to over 10,000 innovative companies across various sectors, including healthcare.

Al Mahmoudi stated, “From early days, Sharjah has believed that true civilization is not measured by material structures alone, but by the elevation of humanity — in thought, spirit, and health.”

Dr Asma Fikri, Director of Government and Institutional Partnerships at SPARK, pointed out that the University of Sharjah and American University of Sharjah have collectively published more than 2,000 research papers in the field of healthcare, underscoring the emirate”s increasing influence in global medical innovation.

During the event, Al Mahmoudi announced several significant partnerships aimed at enhancing healthcare innovation. These include collaborations with the Sharjah Health Authority to integrate scientific research with clinical practice, and a partnership with Emirates Health Services to create frameworks for implementing innovative healthcare solutions across the nation.

Additional collaborations with Beeah Group aim to connect environmental sustainability with public health initiatives, fostering cleaner environments. A new partnership with Aster DM Healthcare, a prominent regional medical institution, will facilitate connections between research laboratories and patient care.

International collaborations with medical and technology institutions will provide Sharjah-based researchers with free access to testing data and opportunities for research funding, further supporting the region”s healthcare landscape.

The event also anticipates the upcoming Future of Healthcare Summit 2025 in Dubai, which will gather leading experts to discuss the integration of AI and precision medicine in healthcare.

As the healthcare sector evolves, the emphasis is on developing smarter solutions rather than simply accelerating existing processes, according to industry leaders.
