Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) in Tirupati is preparing to integrate robotic technology for surgical procedures in various departments shortly, as announced by SVIMS Director Dr RV Kumar.
During the 4th Simhadri Satyanarayana Rao Chair Oration held by the Department of Surgical Oncology on Tuesday, Dr Kumar emphasized the need for medical professionals to keep up with the latest innovations in cancer treatment. He noted that SVIMS is taking measures to implement robotic-assisted surgeries in order to remain competitive with global advancements.
The oration, titled “Decentralising Excellence and Democratising Access: A Bright Future for Healthcare in India,” was presented by Dr Vishwajyoti P Srivastava, Chief Executive Officer (Asia Pacific) of SSI Innovations in New Delhi. In his PowerPoint presentation, Dr Srivastava discussed the recent advancements in surgical robotics and the increasing availability of high-end healthcare technologies in India.
Dr Kumar highlighted the importance of these developments for enhancing cancer care. On this occasion, Dr Srivastava, who has played a pivotal role in the field of surgical robotics, was honored with a gold medal. Dr H Narendra, the Head of the Surgical Oncology Department, mentioned that under Dr Srivastava”s guidance, robotic surgeries have been successfully carried out in various hospitals throughout the country.
Additionally, several faculty members participated in the event, including Dr Manilal, Professor of Surgical Oncology, Dr Alok Sachan, Dean, Dr Aparna Bitla, Registrar, and Dr Usha Kalavath, Principal of Sri Padmavathi Medical College for Women.
