Acervos Revelados Showcases Mexican Cinema Treasures for World Audiovisual Heritage Day

In celebration of World Audiovisual Heritage Day on October 27, “Acervos Revelados: Muestra del patrimonio audiovisual” will launch, featuring films preserved by the Instituto Mexicano de Cinematografía (Imcine), Cineteca Nacional, Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica (CCC), and Filmoteca de la UNAM. The exhibition will run from October 27 to November 9, 2025, showcasing a collaborative program designed by the mentioned institutions.

Each organization has chosen audiovisual pieces that reflect its history, profile, and mission, aiming to share significant materials from their collections while acknowledging the crucial preservation and dissemination efforts they undertake. Screenings of various gems of Mexican cinema will take place in cinemas and public television stations across different regions of the country, alongside the platform Nuestro Cine.

To kick off the exhibition, the Cineteca Nacional will screen a collection of short films, including “Garrido Canabal,” “Comunidades rurales,” “Lázaro Cárdenas mixteca gira gral.,” “Harry Wright: Marriage customs of the mixtec indians,” “Sandunga,” “Trailer tarahumara,” “Trailer Alma Grande,” and “Archivo Lilly (fragmentos).” The event is scheduled for Monday, October 27, at 6:00 PM in Sala 4 at the Xoco venue. Additionally, it will feature a selection of films that portray the diverse representations of Indigenous women in Mexican cinema, presenting four perspectives that engage in dialogue about identity, spirituality, and female strength across various contexts.

Imcine will present “El apocalipsis de los setenta: cortometrajes del CPC,” a selection that offers insight into Mexico during the 1970s. This includes four short films from the Centro de Producción de Cortometraje (CPC) that sensitively address themes such as land, water, and the social tensions of the era, revealing a nation in transformation. From its collection, Imcine will also feature “La línea paterna,” directed by José Buil and Marise Sistach, which utilizes personal archival material from the director himself. This work embodies the spirit of the exhibition by looking to the past to understand the connections that define us.

As part of its 50th anniversary, the CCC will share a retrospective of its history through four short films produced between the 1970s and the year 2000. This selection illustrates the evolution of its languages, aesthetics, and formative voices prior to the digital age. The Filmoteca de la UNAM has chosen to highlight the origins of cinema in Mexico, focusing on the early works created by women and initial explorations of national animation.

The “Acervos Revelados: Muestra del patrimonio audiovisual” program will reach independent cinema circuits in nine states across the country: Baja California, Baja California Sur, Mexico City, Durango, State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Nuevo León, Quintana Roo, and Zacatecas. It will also be broadcast on 25 public television stations, seven of which have national reach: Mx Nuestro Cine (signal 22.2), Canal Once, Canal Veintidós (signal 22.1), @prende.mx+ (signal 14.2), Justicia TV (signal 13.2), Canal 14 (signal 14.1), and TV Migrante (signals 14.2 and 14.3), along with eighteen other television stations in sixteen states, including Baja California Sur, Campeche, Chiapas, Mexico City, Colima, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Morelos, Nuevo León, Oaxaca, Puebla, Querétaro, Quintana Roo, Sinaloa, Tlaxcala, and Zacatecas.
