Antonio Banderas Criticizes Spanish Politicians, Expresses Disappointment

Antonio Banderas recently appeared on the Antena 3 program “Espejo Público,” where he shared his thoughts on the Spanish political landscape. During the interview, he expressed his dismay, stating, “It embarrasses me,” when discussing the behavior of politicians in Spain.

Banderas elaborated on the declining intellectual standards among political figures, suggesting that there was once a time when leaders displayed greater personality, education, and preparedness compared to the present. He remarked, “At an intellectual level, they have declined,” reflecting on the current political climate.

The actor also drew parallels to his recent theatrical work, which is based on the Gospel of Matthew and premiered on Broadway in the 1970s. He highlighted that the themes of this production—peace, love, forgiveness, humility, and charity—remain relevant amid ongoing global conflicts in regions such as Israel, Nigeria, Yemen, and Ukraine.

Commenting on the state of government oversight sessions, Banderas likened them to a children”s playground, stating, “It”s like watching kids throwing plates at each other.” He criticized the attitudes and behaviors exhibited during these sessions, regardless of the differing beliefs and ideologies held by those in attendance.

Through his words, Banderas invites reflection on the current political environment and the qualities expected from leaders, which he feels are lacking today.
