The Associated Press has undertaken a significant investigation into the trend of anti-science legislation in state legislatures across the United States. This comprehensive analysis involved the examination of more than 1,000 bills that were introduced in various states.
To identify these bills, reporters utilized the bill-tracking software known as Plural, in conjunction with a database maintained by the National Conference of State Legislatures. The focus of the investigation was primarily on legislation concerning vaccines, fluoride usage, and the sale of raw, unpasteurized milk.
Each bill was scrutinized to determine whether it undermined science-based protections that are essential for human health. Additionally, the investigation included an examination of national advocacy groups linked to U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.. The analysis captured the bills these groups supported or opposed, along with their reasoning for such positions.
