With a touch of irony, the chef begins, “I mentioned in a previous video that things were hidden well, but I didn”t realize that my extra payments were also taken away. In all these years, I have not seen a single one.” Many workers in the industry are reportedly deprived of these extra payments, which are not reflected in their paychecks. The chef remarks, “It sounds to me like: look what I”m pulling over on you without you noticing.” Initially, he found this situation amusing, but he realizes the long-term consequences could be severe, especially concerning retirement benefits and receiving less pay than deserved.
The chef articulates a common complaint within the industry, noting that the issue of unaccounted extra payments is widespread. He points out that these bonuses, which should be distributed throughout the year, often do not appear on many workers” pay stubs. “What I have also observed is that my contract states “executive chef,” and I think, “Wow, do contracts like this even exist?”” he concludes, expressing disbelief at the inconsistencies in the contracts provided to chefs across different countries.
