Chief Justice of Afghanistan Advocates for Modern Education Aligned with Islamic Values

The Chief Justice of Afghanistan”s Supreme Court has highlighted the importance of modern education in fortifying the country”s educational framework. During a recent meeting, Chief Justice Sheikh Mawlawi Abdul Hakim Haqqani stated that preparing the educational curriculum in accordance with Islamic values is vital for achieving a robust system.

The Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) released a statement on Friday detailing the meeting aimed at enhancing the educational sector, where the contributions of scholars and educators were acknowledged. The gathering included prominent figures such as the Chief Justice, the Minister of Promotion of Virtue, Prevention of Vice, and Complaints, the Minister of Higher Education along with his deputies, and representatives from various educational institutions.

In his remarks, Chief Justice Haqqani praised Afghan educators, asserting, “All our teachers in Afghanistan are Muslims, hardworking and good people. Those who did not align with Islam left the country or fled.” He stressed that stability and the successful implementation of an Islamic system are unattainable without the inclusion of modern sciences, asserting that the strength of the educational system is derived from contemporary education.

Haqqani also emphasized the necessity of revising academic materials, stating that developing curricula that reflect Islamic principles and Afghan cultural traditions is crucial for reinforcing the Islamic system. He commended the efforts of scholars and the Ministry of Higher Education for their dedication to improving higher education in the country.

Furthermore, Sheikh Mohammad Khalid Hanafi, the Minister of Promotion of Virtue, Prevention of Vice, and Complaints, remarked that occupiers have historically altered educational curricula to promote their ideologies following invasions. He asserted that the aim of the Islamic Emirate is to ensure that graduates from universities and seminaries are well-versed in Islamic beliefs and values.
