Francis Ford Coppola to Auction Exclusive Watch Following Film Losses

Francis Ford Coppola plans to auction one of his most exclusive watches as a means to recover financial losses from his latest film, Megalopolis. The film did not perform well at the box office, earning only 14.3 million dollars despite a production budget of 120 million dollars.

This auction is set to take place on December 6 and 7. Among the items for sale is a unique timepiece that has garnered attention in the high-end watch community, where it is sometimes referred to as a “rock star.” The watch was conceived during a dinner at Coppola”s home in 2012, where he made suggestions to the watchmaker regarding its design.

The watch is inspired by a 16th-century concept and features a distinctive method of indicating time through the extension or retraction of fingers across various sequences. A rotating white ring around the perimeter of the watch face helps mark the hours.

Coppola will part with his personal piece, which he received in 2021, in an effort to offset the financial strain from his recent cinematic endeavor that did not meet expectations.
