Madrid”s Sumar Coalition Demands Resignation of Housing Minister Isabel Rodríguez

The progressive coalition, Sumar, in Madrid is calling for the resignation of Isabel Rodríguez, the Minister of Housing, citing her inability to address Spain”s housing crisis. This demand was articulated during an appearance on the program “Todo es Mentira” on Cuatro.

Verónica Barbero, the spokesperson for the coalition, emphasized the need for serious, courageous, and innovative measures to tackle the housing issue. Barbero expressed concern that Rodríguez has not fully embraced the urgency of the situation. She challenged the minister to respond to each of Sumar”s proposed solutions, implying that if Rodríguez lacks ideas, the coalition is ready to provide them.

The coalition”s frustration was also voiced by Tesh Sidi, who stated, “This is the legislative term focused on housing.” Sidi remarked that since the Spanish Socialist Workers” Party took over the Ministry of Housing, the necessity of addressing the housing crisis has been clear. He noted that the problem affects all generations and that the coalition cannot rely on the People”s Party for support on housing legislation or in acquiring properties from investment funds.

In response to the current situation, Sidi criticized the government”s dismissive attitude towards tenant union proposals, labeling such remarks as trivializing. He pointed out that the political landscape could change by 2030, and he urged the need for decisive action against the rising influence of extreme right-wing movements.

Sidi concluded by asserting that if the current legislative period does not yield tangible results, it will be a missed opportunity. He reiterated the need for proactive measures to adequately address the housing crisis, stating, “If we want to compete against an extreme right offensive, we must act.” The coalition”s call for action reflects a broader concern about the growing housing challenges facing many residents in Spain.
