The National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) in Oman has officially launched the National Strategy for Statistics and Information for the period 2025–2030. This initiative represents a significant advancement in promoting data-driven governance within the country.
The unveiling of the strategy took place during a workshop held on Wednesday, which gathered over 100 representatives from various governmental organizations. The event aimed to familiarize participants with the new framework and engage in discussions regarding its performance indicators.
This strategy aligns with national efforts to standardize statistical and information systems while enhancing collaboration among government institutions. It seeks to ensure that data integration effectively supports the nation”s developmental goals and the aspirations outlined in Oman Vision 2040.
According to Dr Khalifa bin Abdullah al Barwani, CEO of NCSI, the strategy establishes a comprehensive framework aimed at advancing the statistical and informational landscape in the sultanate. He stated, “This phase marks the operational launch of the strategy and consolidation of a data-driven culture across government institutions.”
Dr Barwani emphasized that the success of the initiative hinges on establishing robust partnerships between NCSI and other government entities. These partnerships are crucial for translating strategic objectives into actionable programs and measurable performance indicators.
The strategy is designed to bolster knowledge-based decision-making, enhance the efficiency of statistical and information operations, and develop national competencies capable of leveraging advanced technologies in this field. A key aspect of the strategy includes the creation of a dedicated strategy office tasked with monitoring progress and ensuring that established objectives are met.
The workshop featured a series of presentations, interactive discussions, and a review of successful national initiatives in the area of statistical and information systems. Participants also deliberated on methods for tracking the strategy”s implementation and assessing its performance indicators.
The launch of the National Strategy for Statistics and Information 2025–2030 is expected to empower government institutions to adopt integrated, data-centric practices that facilitate effective planning and contribute to the realization of the goals outlined in Oman Vision 2040.
