On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Emerging Science and Technology Innovation Conclave (ESTIC) 2025 at Bharat Mandapam. During this significant event, he announced the launch of the Rs 1 lakh crore Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Scheme Fund, designed to enhance India”s scientific and technological capabilities.
In his address, Modi took a moment to celebrate the recent historic victory of the Indian women”s cricket team, expressing pride in their remarkable achievement and offering his congratulations to the players who have made the nation proud.
The Prime Minister highlighted India”s achievements in the field of space exploration, mentioning the recent successful launch of the Indian Navy”s GSAT-7R (CMS-03) communication satellite by ISRO. He extended his congratulations to ISRO and the scientists involved in the successful mission, stating that the day represented another milestone for science and technology in India.
Emphasizing the need to discuss emerging innovations, Modi explained that this idea led to the establishment of the conclave, which is now a reality. He pointed out that India”s global standing in innovation is on the rise, noting the presence of Nobel laureates at the event.
Modi remarked, “The pace of change in science is no longer linear but exponential.” He stressed that the government”s Rs 1 lakh crore RDI Scheme Fund aims to create new opportunities in research and development, promoting innovation in both public institutions and the private sector. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of facilitating research, indicating that the government has already implemented reforms to financial rules and procurement policies to bolster scientific growth.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh, who also spoke at the event, expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for his vision and support. He noted that ESTIC 2025 is occurring at a time when the global perception of India has undergone a transformation, stating, “For decades, our scientists lacked adequate facilities despite their immense talent.” Under Modi”s leadership, he highlighted India”s journey toward becoming a Viksit Bharat (Developed India), citing advancements in startups, Gaganyaan, biotechnology, and vaccine development as key indicators of progress.
Singh further observed that the startup ecosystem has expanded beyond metropolitan areas, with innovative ventures emerging from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. A short film showcasing the RDI Scheme was also presented during the event.
Earlier, Modi shared on social media about the significance of the ESTIC 2025, which is expected to gather over 3,000 participants from academia, research institutions, industry, and government, including Nobel Laureates, distinguished scientists, innovators, and policymakers. The conclave will cover 11 thematic areas, including Advanced Materials and Manufacturing, Artificial Intelligence, Bio-Manufacturing, and others.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister”s Office (PMO), the ESTIC 2025 will feature talks by leading scientists, panel discussions, and technology showcases, providing a collaborative platform for researchers, industry members, and young innovators to enhance India”s science and technology ecosystem.
Singh described ESTIC 2025 as a platform for young innovators and startups to present innovative solutions, seek mentorship, and connect with industry stakeholders. This conclave is designed as an outcome-oriented forum that celebrates the contributions of various stakeholders while fostering collaborations among researchers, entrepreneurs, and funding agencies.
