Trump Claims Success in Curbing Drug Trafficking, Warns Colombia and Venezuela of Future Actions

Donald Trump recently declared that his administration has successfully curtailed the flow of drugs into the United States by sea. During his comments, he also issued a stern warning to Colombia and Venezuela regarding upcoming actions that will be taken on land.

The remarks have intensified tensions with Colombian President Gustavo Petro and Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. Both leaders have criticized Trump for allegedly politicizing the battle against drug trafficking for military and electoral gains. In a statement from Bogotá, Petro condemned those who have attacked the drug cartels, accusing them of contributing to increased cocaine consumption in American society.

These comments come in the wake of sanctions imposed by the United States, which Petro has labeled as a “mockery” and a form of “political punishment.” In response to Trump”s assertions, Maduro accused the U.S. president of “inventing a new eternal war,” indicating that such claims could escalate tensions further.

The Colombian government is currently assessing its response, especially in light of allegations that U.S. agents are operating within Venezuelan territory with the aim of destabilizing Maduro”s government. Meanwhile, Maduro has also pointed fingers at Trump, suggesting that his policies are harmful to both regional stability and the fight against drug trafficking.

Despite these accusations, U.S. naval operations in the Caribbean continue unabated, indicating a sustained focus on drug interdiction in the region amid rising tensions.
