Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan stressed the significance of conducting ethical research in biotechnology during a meeting with Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, Dr. Jitendra Singh, on Thursday. The meeting took place at Parliament House, where Dr. Singh and senior officials from the ministries discussed key initiatives aimed at fostering scientific research and innovation.
During this session, the Vice-President received updates on ongoing programs designed to enhance technology development and commercialization, particularly in fields such as biotechnology, quantum computing, and cybersecurity. Additionally, they covered advancements in meteorological services, climate studies, ocean research, and disaster risk mitigation.
Radhakrishnan praised the ministries for their efforts in bolstering India”s innovation-driven scientific ecosystem and advancing research in cutting-edge technologies. He noted India”s impressive climb from the 81st rank in 2015 to the 38th rank in the Global Innovation Index 2025, highlighting the increase in patents, scientific publications, and technology-driven economic growth.
The Vice-President also acknowledged important developments in vaccine research, the creation of the BharatGenAI large language model, and advancements in quantum computing. He emphasized the rapid improvements in weather forecasting capabilities and the significant potential of India”s blue economy.
In conclusion, Radhakrishnan called for sustained global partnerships to ensure that India continues to lead in scientific advancements, reinforcing the need for ethical standards in biotechnology to inspire the next generation of scientists.
