William “Bill” Plant, originally from Pawtucket, Rhode Island, has passed away in Torrance, California. Bill served his country as a radioman in the United States Coast Guard, stationed in Newfoundland, California, and the South Pacific. It was during his time at the Point Vicente Lighthouse in the spring of 1962 that he met Jeannine, the love of his life, while bodysurfing at Redondo Beach.
Bill and Jeannine married in December of that year, embarking on a journey of companionship that spanned over 63 years. While Bill was assigned to the small island of Ulithi, Jeannine took the initiative to purchase their forever home in South Redondo.
After dedicating eight years to the Coast Guard, Bill transitioned to a new role in public service by joining the Redondo Beach Police Department, where he devoted almost three decades to serving his community. Outside of his professional commitments, Bill found joy in maintaining his home, cultivating a garden that attracted hummingbirds and monarch butterflies, and enjoying the ocean”s beauty from the Esplanade. However, his greatest happiness stemmed from the time spent with his family, especially with his cherished wife, Jeannine.
Bill is survived by his wife, Jeannine, their children Nathan (Jennifer), Adam (Miki), and Sara (Sam), as well as his sister Virginia (Richard) and a wide circle of extended family and friends. A private celebration of his life is planned for a later date.
