COC to Host Fall Star Party Featuring NASA Scientist Athina Peidou

The College of the Canyons (COC) is set to host its Fall Star Party in 2025, featuring a notable presentation by Athina Peidou, a geodesist and staff scientist involved with NASA”s GRACE-FO Project at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The event will take place on October 24 from 6:00 PM to 9:30 PM at the Canyon Country campus.

Peidou”s talk, titled “Monitoring the Global Water Cycle with GRACE-FO Missions,” will provide attendees with valuable insights into how NASA”s mission tracks the movement of water across the globe. This initiative is crucial for understanding changes in the Earth”s water resources, which have significant implications for climate science and resource management.

In addition to Peidou”s presentation, the free event will offer participants the opportunity to observe the night sky through high-powered telescopes. Attendees will also benefit from science updates presented by faculty and students, interactive demonstrations, and access to an indoor portable planetarium.

Those interested in learning more about the event can visit the COC Canyon Country campus webpage at www.canyons.edu/canyoncountry/index.php.

The Fall Star Party promises to be an enriching experience for science enthusiasts and the general public alike, providing a unique chance to engage with cutting-edge research and explore the wonders of the universe.
