The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is scheduled to launch the military communications satellite CMS-03 on November 2. The launch will take place at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre located in Sriharikota.
Known as GSAT-7R, the CMS-03 satellite is designed as a multi-band communication system that aims to deliver services over a vast oceanic area, including the Indian landmass. ISRO announced that this satellite, with a weight of approximately 4,400 kilograms, will be the heaviest communication satellite ever launched into Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO) from Indian soil.
The Launch Vehicle Mark 3 (LVM3) will be responsible for the satellite”s deployment. ISRO confirmed that the launch vehicle has been completely assembled and integrated with the CMS-03 satellite, and it has been transported to the launch pad for final pre-launch preparations.
This upcoming launch marks the first deployment of the LVM3 rocket in more than two years. The last mission involving this rocket occurred in July 2023 when it successfully launched the historic Chandrayaan-3 mission, which made India the first nation to land near the lunar south pole.
