November 2025 Features Second Supermoon and New Moon Phases in Spain

In November 2025, Spain will witness its second supermoon of the year, occurring on November 5. This event, known as the Beaver Moon, will begin at 2:19 PM under the sign of Taurus. According to EarthSky, 2025 will feature three consecutive supermoons: the first on October 7, followed by the Beaver Moon, and concluding with the Cold Moon on December 5, which will occur at 12:14 AM under the sign of Gemini.

The month starts with a new moon on November 1 at 1:47 PM, occurring under the sign of Scorpio. Typically, a new moon happens once a month, as the moon takes approximately 29.5 days to complete its cycle through the four main phases: full moon, new moon, waxing crescent, and waning crescent. During the new moon phase, the moon is positioned between the Earth and the sun, making its illuminated side invisible from Earth.

This alignment results in the moon appearing to vanish in the sky, often making it difficult for observers to spot. The new moon, also referred to as novilunio, occurs approximately every 29.5 days, aligning with the lunar cycle known as the synodic month. Similarly, full moons occur with this same periodicity, leading to a total of 12 full moons in a year.

However, given that a year comprises 365 or 366 days, there are about 12.4 complete lunar cycles annually. This discrepancy means that roughly every two and a half to three years, there will be a year with 13 full moons. A full moon happens when the Earth is positioned between the sun and the moon, causing the moon to reflect sunlight fully, reaching its maximum brightness.

Before reaching the full moon stage, the moon goes through the waxing crescent phase, characterized by the illuminated right half in the Northern Hemisphere, resembling the letter “D.” Following the full moon, it transitions to the waning phase, where the left side is illuminated, taking the form of a “C.” This leads to the adage that the moon is deceptive; during growth, it appears as “D,” the beginning letter of the word “decrease,” while in the waning phase, it resembles “C,” the starting letter of “increase.”

According to the Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN), various lunar phases will occur in November, starting with the new moon on November 1. Overall, 2024 will have 12 full moons, with two of the remaining three being supermoons, similar to September”s.
