The Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) is set to launch a state-of-the-art hybrid computing facility named Tejaswi on Monday. This initiative, supported by an investment of Rs 26 crore from the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB), aims to enhance advanced research and artificial intelligence (AI) efforts within the region.
According to Arun A U, the registrar of Cusat, the facility will combine traditional high-performance computing (HPC) capabilities with modern AI and machine learning (ML) workloads. It is designed to provide 350 TFLOPS (Tera Floating Point Operations per second) of sustained performance, enabling comprehensive scientific simulations, modeling, and data-intensive AI development.
“Tejaswi is intended to accelerate pioneering research in AI, scientific simulations, and high-performance computing,” Arun A U stated. He noted that the facility will support leading open-source applications, including climate modeling and computational chemistry and physics. The collaboration with Hewlett Packard Enterprise Company (HPE) brings expertise from some of the largest supercomputing facilities globally.
The funding from KIIFB highlights the state government”s commitment to enhancing the technological and knowledge economy within Kerala. This project will not only advance research at Cusat but also align with state initiatives. The facility aims to provide essential computational resources to foster advanced research across various faculties, including engineering, technology, and marine sciences.
Furthermore, Cusat has expressed its ambition to strengthen research capabilities in emerging areas such as AI and machine learning. The new computing facility is also tailored to support compute-oriented initiatives launched by the state government.
