The IndiaAI Mission, in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO), has launched a global initiative to gather abstracts that showcase significant and scalable applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within health systems. This announcement was made on Saturday, inviting researchers, innovators, and institutions from the Global South to submit their abstracts, each not exceeding 250 words, by October 31.
Selected abstracts will have the opportunity to contribute a chapter to the forthcoming “Casebook on AI Health Use Cases Across the Global South,” which is scheduled to be unveiled at the India–AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi this February, as stated by the IT Ministry. This casebook aims to serve as a comprehensive resource for policymakers, innovators, and researchers striving to replicate and scale successful AI solutions that have already been implemented.
The initiative seeks to document real-world experiences and lessons learned to bolster the responsible adoption of AI and accelerate the digital transformation of healthcare systems. Contributors who are shortlisted based on the relevance and quality of their submissions will be invited to develop full chapters ranging from 2,500 to 3,000 words. These chapters should detail the AI solution, its deployment strategy, ethical considerations, achieved impacts, and key lessons learned.
In a related effort, the government has recently announced the selection of five projects under the second phase of its expression of interest for the “Safe and Trusted AI” pillar of the program initiated by IndiaAI. These chosen projects will focus on enhancing real-time deepfake detection, improving forensic analysis, addressing biases in AI models, and developing comprehensive evaluation tools for generative AI. The aim is to ensure that AI systems implemented in India are trustworthy, secure, and inclusive, according to an official statement.
Collectively, these projects embody the principles of “Safe and Trusted AI,” merging resilience testing and bias audits to promote the responsible development and deployment of AI technologies.
