Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) is setting a strong foundation for future technology leaders through its focus on Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI). During a recent event, Prof Mahavir Singh, the university”s Vice-Chancellor, underscored the significant role these fields play in transforming industries, governance, and education worldwide.
Speaking at the launch of the placement brochure for the MSc Data Science and Artificial Intelligence program for the 2024-2026 academic batch, Prof Singh noted the university”s commitment to producing skilled professionals capable of contributing to the ongoing digital evolution. He praised the department for its achievements since its inception in 2021, highlighting its strong emphasis on research and curriculum alignment with industry trends.
In line with this commitment, the university plans to introduce two new specialized MSc programs—MSc in Data Science and MSc in AI—starting in 2025. This initiative aims to broaden academic opportunities and enhance career prospects for students. “I am confident that our students will continue to bring recognition to the university through their academic excellence, placements, and research contributions,” Prof Singh remarked.
Prof Manu Sood, the Chairman of the department, echoed these sentiments, stating, “Since its establishment in 2021, the department has continuously evolved to meet the demands of the rapidly changing technological landscape.” He added that the introduction of specialized postgraduate programs would further strengthen the department”s foundation.
Prof Sood emphasized the goal of the department is to cultivate not only competent professionals but also socially responsible individuals who leverage technology for the benefit of society. Over the past two years, six student clubs have been active, providing opportunities for students to develop diverse skills and critical thinking.
Furthermore, the department has demonstrated a consistent placement record. In the 2023-2025 academic session, six students secured positions with reputable companies, including Code Quotient, VDoIT Technologies, and A2IT Solutions.
