Himachal Pradesh University Advances Data Science and AI Education for Future Leaders

Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) is making significant strides in the fields of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI), according to Vice-Chancellor Prof Mahavir Singh. He emphasized the critical role these technologies play in transforming various sectors including industry, governance, and education during the launch of the placement brochure for the MSc Data Science and AI program for the 2024-2026 cohort.

Prof Singh noted that institutions like HPU are essential in equipping professionals who can contribute effectively to the ongoing digital transformation. Since the establishment of the department in 2021, he praised its commitment to fostering a robust research culture in emerging technology fields.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed pride in the department”s alignment with current industry trends and announced the introduction of two new specialized master”s programs: MSc in Data Science and MSc in AI, which will commence in 2025. He confidently stated, “I am certain that our students will continue to bring recognition to the university through their academic excellence, placements, and research contributions.”

Chairman of the department, Prof Manu Sood, stated that the department has continually adapted to the rapid technological advancements since its inception. He highlighted that the addition of these specialized postgraduate programs will not only solidify the department”s foundation but also broaden career opportunities for students.

Prof Sood emphasized that the mission of the department extends beyond producing competent professionals; it aims to cultivate socially responsible individuals who leverage technology for societal benefit. Over the past two years, six student clubs have been active, providing platforms for enhancing multi-dimensional skills and critical thinking.

The department”s impressive placement record was also noted, with six students from the 2023-2025 session securing positions at reputable companies including Code Quotient, VDoIT Technologies, and A2IT Solutions.
