India Leads Efforts for Global Ethical AI Framework, Says PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on November 3 that India is taking significant steps to establish a global framework for ethical and human-centric artificial intelligence (AI). He highlighted that the forthcoming AI Governance Framework will play a pivotal role in fostering innovation while ensuring safety.

During his address, Modi revealed that India will host the Global AI Summit in February 2026, an event aimed at furthering the development of inclusive, ethical, and human-centered AI technologies. He underscored the importance of recognizing the transformative potential of science and technology, particularly in maintaining ethical standards and inclusivity.

Modi pointed out that AI has become integral to various sectors, including retail, logistics, customer service, and even assisting children with their homework. He reaffirmed India”s commitment to making AI advantageous for all segments of society through the India AI Mission, which involves an investment exceeding Rs 10,000 crore.

Speaking at the Emerging Science, Technology and Innovation Conclave (ESTIC) 2025 held at Bharat Mandapam, the Prime Minister urged for increased focus on emerging fields critical for India”s development. He posed several thought-provoking questions regarding advancements in agricultural technology, like the creation of biofortified crops to combat global malnutrition, and the exploration of alternatives to chemical fertilizers through innovations in soil health enhancers.

Additionally, he inquired about the potential for India to enhance its genomic mapping to improve personalized medicine and disease prediction, as well as the development of affordable clean energy storage solutions, such as batteries. Modi highlighted the necessity of identifying critical resources where India currently relies on imports and emphasized the goal of achieving self-sufficiency in these areas.

The Prime Minister expressed his optimism that individuals engaged in science and technology would not only address these questions but also pursue new opportunities. He reiterated the government”s dedication to supporting innovative ideas through funding and resources for researchers.

Modi concluded by expressing hope that a collective roadmap would emerge from this Conclave, one that would significantly advance India”s journey toward innovation and technological development.
