Morigaon College Hosts National Seminar on AI Research and Applications

A one-day National Seminar on “Emerging Trends in AI Research and Applications” was successfully held by the Department of Mathematics and the Department of Computer Applications at Morigaon College (Autonomous) on October 22, 2025. The event, organized in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), attracted prominent academics and researchers who gathered to explore recent advancements and innovations in the field of Artificial Intelligence.

The seminar commenced with a ceremonial lighting of the lamp led by Dr. Dhananjay Kusre, Vice Principal of Morigaon College (Autonomous), accompanied by other notable guests. The event was inaugurated by Prof. Tarini Kumar Dutta, a respected mathematician from Assam Don Bosco University in Guwahati, who emphasized the deep-rooted relationship between mathematics and artificial intelligence in his opening remarks.

Following the inaugural session, the keynote address was delivered by Prof. Manoj Kumar Deka, the Academic Head and Head of the Department of Information Technology at Assam Skill University. In his presentation titled “AI in Academia: Enhancing Research, Innovation, and Impact,” he outlined the ethical use of AI tools to propel academic research forward.

The first invited lecture was presented by Dr. Jyotismita Talukdar, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Tezpur University. Her discussion, “Machine Learning to Deep Learning: Impact on Modern Healthcare and Medicine,” highlighted the transformative effects of deep learning technologies on the healthcare industry.

Another keynote speaker, Dr. Rupam Kumar Sharma, an Assistant Professor at Rajiv Gandhi University, spoke on “Breeding Technology,” which included discussions on Generative AI and Agentic AI, illustrating their potential applications.

Throughout the seminar, participants presented a variety of research papers addressing topics such as recurrent neural networks, natural language processing, speech recognition, and feature extraction. The event wrapped up with a valedictory session where Dr. Lila Kanta Barthakur, Principal of Morigaon College (Autonomous), along with other guests, acknowledged the hard work of the organizers and participants.

The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks from Upashana Gogoi, Joint Coordinator, marking an enriching experience that underscored the necessity for ongoing research and innovation in artificial intelligence.
