NCERT and IIT Madras Partner to Enhance Educational Research and Technology Integration

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, aimed at fostering innovation in education through technology and collaborative research, according to officials.

This partnership will focus on utilizing advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to enhance accessibility, inclusivity, and the overall quality of the educational landscape.

School Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar emphasized the significance of this collaboration in achieving the objectives outlined in the new National Education Policy (NEP) and the upcoming National Curriculum Framework. He noted the necessity for all educational materials to be digitized and available in 22 scheduled languages, thereby supporting learning in children”s native languages.

Kumar highlighted that IIT Madras is recognized as a leader in information technology. He pointed out that the development of educational content should incorporate elements like gamification, animation, video, and extended reality. Furthermore, he advocated for the implementation of Personalised Adaptive Learning (PAL) and the creation of effective pedagogical and technological resources to facilitate lesson planning and assessments using AI tools while addressing future skill requirements.

Through this collaboration, NCERT and IIT Madras will concentrate on several key areas, including the creation and distribution of high-quality educational materials; Continuous Professional Development (CPD) for educators; technology integration and AI/ML-enabled educational solutions; collaborative research, big data management, and analytics; as well as the promotion of multilingual and inclusive learning environments.

Dinesh Saklani, Chairman of NCERT, stated, “This collaboration represents a significant step toward realizing the vision of NEP 2020 by harnessing technology for accessible and inclusive education.”
